RNG used that to snowball the game, winning the first in this series in convincing fashion. Looper solo killed Duke at 10 minutes, opening up a sizable lead in the lane, and when RNG took Rift Herald a few minutes later they gave it to Looper it was the first time all tournament the buff wasn't given to mlxg.
Now with extra pushing power, Looper took down the top outer turret at 14 minutes and the mid outer turret a minute later, opening up a 4k gold lead for the Chinese squad.
At 24 minutes, Duke and Faker spent 25 seconds chasing Looper down the top lane, trying to catch him.
It went horribly wrong, as Looper was able to make it back to the safety of his tower and turn it around for a double kill with some late help from mlxg and Mata.
Ten minutes later, RNG took Baron and won the extended ensuing team fight thanks to another late teleport from Duke, breaking open SKT's base and opening a commanding 10k gold lead.
It's one of the only times we've seen xiaohu behind on his signature LeBlanc, and Faker turned an early lane lead into a dominant performance, tying up the series for his team.
Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok and the other four members of the Korean championship team revved up over the course of the series, capped off with a perfect game no neutral objectives or kills against it.
That sent a resounding statement: Even though the world champions struggled in the best-of-one group stage format, no team on the planet could hang with it in a full best-of-five battle.
Royal got off to a quick start in the early-game during the opening game. Lee "Duke" Ho-Seong, T1's starting top laner since the beginning of the year, took on the role as the punching bag in the first set.
His play in the Poppy vs. Looper's solo kill on Duke in the top lane allowed RNG to snowball its lane advantages and accrue a sizeable advantage moving out of the laning phase.
The world champions balked in the first game. After Duke tripped up in the top lane, it felt as if the team began to doubt itself, allowing RNG to dictate the game and how it was going to progress.
Objective after objective fell for the Chinese champions, and T1 attempted to play its renowned counterattack style to no avail. Royal kept applying the pressure, and it wasn't long before Looper's Trundle was simply too big to take down without all five members of T1 throwing everything they had at him.
By the time SK Telecom T1 was finally starting to win team fights off of Royal's brash plays, it was too late -- Looper was the goblin version of Godzilla and T1's base was his stomping ground.
As an expected favorite entering the event, it was becoming less of an outlier and more of the norm.
T1, and Korea by extension, was beatable. Yet, with backs pushed firmly against the wall in the homeland of its opponent, SK Telecom T1 showcased why it's the world champion, and why Faker is the game's greatest player.
